The part where we retrieve the item IDs corresponds to when we fetch the internal IDs of newly inserted or removed embeddings, and this part was... computing the mean degree to help us debug the vector store back then... So, I recently removed this, and as you can see, it was performing full scans of the vector store, which is an operation to avoid, especially as the total number of embeddings grows over time. Removing this part reduces the time from 559s to about 2-3s and reduces it to O(n), where n is the number of newly inserted or removed embeddings.
